RecycleBank Enters Second Phase
Written by Low Carbon Economy Published: September 07, 2009
RecycleBank was launched as a pilot scheme on June 1st and has since improved recycling rates in the local area by as much as 37 percent.
The programme works by using equipment in lorries to weigh the amount of waste recycled by households in the borough - and then awarding points on the basis of how much is disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner.
Its second phase, which will involve putting general recycling materials in one bin, has launched today (September 7th).
"Although the trials will be with relatively small numbers of residents, they will give us the opportunity to test the system thoroughly and, if it is successful, we will consider expanding the scheme across the borough," the local authoroty revealed.
"The council has written to all residents eligible to join the pilot schemes inviting them to take part."
